OnePlus 3T to feature a Sony IMX398 sensor?

OnePlus is said to be working on a new version of the OnePlus 3, thought to be called the OnePlus 3T, and now a new a rumour seemingly sheds some light on what we can expect camera-wise.

The latest tip comes via Chinese social media website Weibo, from someone who claims to have the inside scoop when it comes to the as yet unconfirmed upcoming smartphone.

While the phone’s exact specs remain somewhat of a mystery, the tipster has suggested the camera setup will include Sony’s IMX398 sensor.

The 16-megapixel sensor features on the recently debuted Oppo R9s and R9s Plus, which come with a f/1.7 aperture and dual-core autofocus, which is supposedly quicker and more accurate than the more common phase-detection autofocus.

If the sensor is indeed headed for the OnePlus 3T next, users should be able to capture moving objects much more easily thanks to Sony’s sensor.

When it comes to other rumoured specs, some have suggested we’ll see Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821, as opposed to the Snapdragon 820 which comes with the current OnePlus 3.

The existing handset also packs in 6GB RAM, and we don’t expect OnePlus will add any more to that already generous helping.

Whatever the jump in specs, according to prolific leaker Evan Blass, AKA @evleaks, it will mean a subsequent jump in price of $80 (about £65).

Previously, a report from GizmoChina suggested OnePlus was preparing a new version of its flagship phone, set to be called either the OnePlus 3S or OnePlus 3 Plus.

But a designer for the company recently posted to Weibo using a device identified as the OnePlus 3T, which seems to be backed up by Blass’ tweet.

OnePlus is yet to confirm any information regarding an upgraded OnePlus 3, so for now, take all the rumours with due caution.

We’re expecting to hear more in the coming weeks, however, so stay tuned for the latest.
