OnePlus 2 tipped with ‘more premium’ metal design

OnePlus is looking to add a premium spin to its upcoming OnePlus 2 handset, a new report reveals.

According to Business Insider, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer wants to ensure its next smartphone will ‘look and feel more premium than the One‘.

The article cites sources familiar with the matter, and says those sources suggested a metal frame would be included on the fast-approaching device.

The OnePlus One, currently OnePlus’ only smartphone SKU, has a polycarbonate back.

That’s in contrast to the growing trend of metal-clad flagship smartphones, as seen most evidently in the iPhone 6 and HTC One M9.

Unfortunately, one downside of padding out the OnePlus 2 with premium materials is that it could bump up the handset cost.

OnePlus has made a name for itself by pricing the OnePlus One as low as possible without skimping on components.

The company has already confirmed that it will try to keep costs down for the OnePlus One sequel, but that the final price will be representative of the materials used to design the phone.

Whatever the case, it’s still likely that OnePlus will try to maintain its modus operandi of undercutting the current roster of flagship devices from other manufacturers.

It’s still not clear when OnePlus plans to officially unveil its OnePlus 2 device, but it’s likely we’ll see the handset at some point this year.
