OnePlus 2 hits two million reservations

OnePlus has announced that it has hit two million reservations for its new flagship phone, the OnePlus 2.

Last week we reported that the Chinese manufacturer had managed to attract one million sign-ups to the reservation list after just three days.

Then, earlier this week, we brought you the news that the OnePlus 2 had sold out within 64 seconds of going on sale in China.

Now OnePlus has tweeted the news of another remarkable milestone. The OnePlus 2 received two million reservations in a single week.

That number doesn’t sound so great when you compare it to the tens of millions that the latest Apple or Samsung phone will sell in. However, OnePlus is remarkable for eschewing any kind of traditional advertising whatsoever.

It’s also notable because the company only sells its devices online through its own website. Even then, you need to jump through hoops to secure an invite to even be allowed to purchase the phones.

Within that context, two million registrations is outstanding.

Of course, it helps that the OnePlus 2 is shaping up to be a seriously tasty piece of kit. It’s got a 5.5-inch 1080p screen, a Snapdragon 810 processor, 3 or 4GB of RAM, and a 13-megapixel rear camera – all wrapped up in a premium metal-rimmed design.

What’s more, prices start from just £239/$329. Or they will provided you can get your hands on one. Judging by its immense popularity and OnePlus’s painstakingly cautious production philosophy, the next two million would-be OnePlus 2 customers are in for a bit of a wait.
