Most people won’t have their OnePlus 2 smartphones yet, but it’s already been cracked open and taken to pieces online.
The famed smartphone dismantlers at iFixit have laid their hands on a pristine OnePlus 2 and, as is their wont, swiftly proceeded to take it apart.
What has their exploratory surgery revealed? A very well put together smartphone with a handy modular design. It seems as if the OnePlus 2 will be much easier (and thus cheaper) to repair than the OnePlus One.
Many of the OnePlus 2’s components can simply be swapped out for another with minimal disruption. This is particularly the case with the brand new USB-C component, which is on a simple flex cable.
This is good news given the inevitable scarcity of the invite-only Chinese smartphone. After all, if you bust it, you won’t be getting a replacement in a hurry.

On the slightly negative side, the teardown also reveals an eye-catching bright orange battery that requires disassembly to remove and replace. Also, the display’s LCD and digitiser glass components have been fused together, which will make it the costliest component to replace.
Overall, though, the result is a good one, with the OnePlus 2 being given a repairability score of seven out of ten. That’s a full two marks higher than the OnePlus One.
