Olympus SP-820UZ camera launches with 40x optical zoom

Olympus has today added to its Ultra Zoom (UZ) ‘Traveller series’ with the launch of the eye-catching Olympus SP-820UZ. It has an impressive 40x optical zoom featuring a wide-angle of just 22.4mm and tele-end of 896mm, providing an immensely useful focal length range. The lens itself is supported by dual image stabilisation for stills capture as well as Multi-motion Movie IS aimed at combating shaky videos.

The SP-820UZ is styled much like a bridge camera and features a host of manual shooting functionality to cater for the advanced shooter. Alongside manual shooting, the SP-820UZ also features twelve of Olympus’s Magic Filters, including ‘dramatic’ and ‘punk’ effects.

A 14MP sensor features, as well as a 3in 460k-dot LCD screen for framing and review of images. Unfortunately there’s no viewfinder, although its absence does result in a noticeably compact body.
