Official: Palm Pre Launches 6 June

But when will we see it in the UK?

The cat may have long since been out the bag, off down the path, through the cat flap and back on the couch with a saucer of milk but now it’s official: the Palm Pre launch is 6 June.

Exclusive US carrier Sprint has today confirmed the news adding that along with its own stores, branches of Best Buy, Radio Shack and select Wal-Mart outlets will offer the much drooled over handset. Being US and therefore one of the few technology areas where we Brits get a better deal, customers will have to shell out $199.99 on top of a two-year contract and after a $100 mail-in rebate. Ouch.

“The argument that you need one phone for work and another phone for play, or that you have to make compromises between business and lifestyle productivity, is over,” said Sprint CEO and president Dan Hesse. “With Pre, compromises of the past are history.” Interestingly, while the US version of the phone was originally meant to be EDGE only Sprint has confirmed – in rather marketing heavy talk – that the “Palm Pre will run on America’s most dependable 3G network”.

Since I’ve already done an extensive Palm Pre first impressions review I’m not going to wade through that all again here (safe to say, it’s mind blowing) but interested customers will need to take into account the sexy ‘Touchstone’ inductive charging dock is an optional extra – a $69.99 extra no less.

So with the Pre confirmed for one side of the Atlantic one thing remains to be said: ”Hey Palm! What about over here…?!”

”’Note:”’ Yep, that is me holding the Pre following its January CES announcement
