Nyko Data Bank for PS4 makes 3.5-inch hard drives compatible
Nyko has unveiled two new PS4 accessories at CES 2015, including the Nyko Data Bank for PS4.
The Nyko Data Bank allows you to upgrade your PS4 internal HDD with larger capacity 3.5-inch hard drives.
Planned to be released in the first half of 2015, the Data Bank for PS4 acts as a hard drive dock that replaces the top of the console and the 2.5-inch hard drive.
It then enables the PS4 to be compatible with 3.5-inch hard drives to be used as internal storage.
“The solution eliminates the need for an external hard drive, which currently cannot support game installs or save data,” explained Nyko. “This also allows for larger storage, faster running speeds and less expensive prices found with 3.5-inch hard drives. The design of the replacement dock lid seamlessly matches the minimalist design of the PS4.”
“Once a 3.5-inch drive is slid into the Data Bank, a built-in LED strip illuminates while the console is accessing its memory.”
Of course, the Nyko Data Bank does somewhat ruin the sleek, streamlined PS4 design by adding a block to one side, but if you’re looking for an easy way to expand your PS4’s internal hard drive.
Currently the PS4 is only compatible with 2.5-inch internal type serial ATA HDD.

Nyko also revealed the Nyko Type Pad. It plugs directly into the headphone jack on the base of the DualShock 4 controller.
The Type Pad is compatible with all Bluetooth keyboard-enabled games and apps and will allow for easier text input on the PS4.
The keyboard also includes a mini-analogue nub for menu navigation. It can be switched off to conserve battery life, but it charges through a standard micro-USB cable.
Nyko has yet to confirm pricing or concrete release date for either of these PS4 accessories, but both will be available in the first half of 2015.
