The Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 has been launched as a brand new gaming tablet, with a much more affordable £149 price.
Following on from the successful Nvidia Shield Tablet of 2014, there’s a new model available to buy right now.
The Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 is a brand new version, with very similar innards to its predecessor, but given a slight redesign and a cheaper price point.
Nvidia’s slate now sits at a very affordable £149, but to achieve that price, the computing giant has stripped away the DirectStylus 2 and any cables that you might expect in the box.
That means if you don’t have a microUSB cable hanging around the house, you won’t be able to charge your shiny new tablet though.

However, for that price you are getting a high-powered Android gaming tablet, packing with Tegra-optimised games, the new Nvidia GeForce Now game streaming service and all the Google apps you can shake a stick at.
The Shield Tablet K1 packs an 8-inch full HD 1,920 x 1,200p IPS display running on the 2.2GHz quad-core Arm Cortex A15 CPU and 2GB of RAM.
Graphical grunt is provided by the same powerful Nvidia Tegra K1 chip as last year’s model and it’s still one of the best mobile GPUs around.
You’ve also got 16GB of internal storage, bolstered by microSD card support for up to an additional 128GB.
Connectivity wise you’re looking at Bluetooth 4.0 LE, support for Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g, a microUSB slot for charging and a mini HDMI port for connecting the tablet to your TV.
If you want to kit out your new Shield Tablet, Nvidia is offering a range of accessories too. There’s the excellent Shield Tablet Cover for £19.99, the Shield stylus (formerly known as the DirectStylus 2) for £14.99 and a World Charger for £17.99.
To get the most out of this gamer-focused tablet, we’d recommend forking out for the Wireless Controller too (£49.99). It’s the same one that comes with the Nvidia Shield TV though, so you may already have one.
