Nokia Outs Plush E52 With Outstanding Battery Life

All the luxuries and some hugely welcome practicalities make this look like a winner.

There are sequels which do their best to avoid the obvious numerical jump: A Few Dollars More, Another 48 Hours, then there’s Nokia’s way of doing it…

The ‘E52’ is – surprise, surprise – the successor to the ageing but impressive E51. It piles on the practicality too taking design cues from the swanky E71, measuring just 116 x 49 x 9.9mm and weighing 98g plus throwing in niceties like HSDPA, WiFi and aGPS.

Other tasty elements include support for Windows Live, Yahoo! instant messaging, Facebook, YouTube, and MySpace plus Ovi, an FM tuner, Bluetooth with A2DP and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There’s a microSD expansion slot and full html web browser in there as well with built in flash support though the 2.4in QVGA display and 3.2MP camera are more perfunctory.

Perhaps the most surprising aspect to the E52 however is something rather more practical: battery life. Nokia quotes a huge eight hours of talk time from a single charge or up to 28 ”days” on standby. Yes, the usual caveats will have attained these figures such as WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G all off – but it’s still incredibly impressive.

The Nokia E52 will ship in Q2 and given that ends in July don’t expect to wait long to have one in your mitts. A few more tasty morsels like this, plus a promising second touchscreen handset and maybe 90 per cent profit crashes will be a thing of the past…
