Nokia Lumia Windows Phones Will Offer High-Spec PureView Camera

When Nokia revealed its PureView camera for its Symbian-based 808 handset recently, the obvious question was whether the company’s Lumia Windows Phone range would also get to benefit from the system, which uses a 41-megapixel sensor.

Now Nokia’s Chris Webber has confirmed, “You can expect we’ll be bringing PureView technologies to the Windows Phone platform in future Lumia devices. We’re absolutely committed to doing that.”

Webber made the statement in an interview with HowardForums. He did not commit to announcing a timescale but added that Nokia is working with Microsoft “to make sure their platform supports the broad set of things we want to do with PureView imaging.”

A more powerful camera could give the platform a much needed killer feature. Microsoft is holding a Windows Phone Summit on June 20, when it will give “a sneak peek of the future of Windows Phones.”

A leaked promotional poster for a Nokia PureView handset that purports to use the Windows Phone OS has already emerged, so we may see more about that very soon.
