Nokia Lumia 900 Now Available in the UK

The Nokia Lumia 900 is now available to buy in the UK. Fancy a piece of fine Windows Phone polycarbonate? You can snag one from Phones4U, for free on contracts of £36 a month, which has already started shipping the devices.

Nokia’s Lumia 900 was unveiled at the CES show in January. At first it looked like it wouldn’t come to the UK, but today it’s available to buy. Phones4U has the current exclusive on the white model, but the cyan and black editions will be available across the UK – not just from Phones4U – from tomorrow.

The Lumia 900 is a larger-screened version of the Nokia Lumia 800, the first Nokia Windows Phone handset. It has a 4.3in Clear Black AMOLED display, offering great contrast and black levels. However, the mobile is still hampered by the limitations of the Windows Phone platform, with just 480 x 800 pixel resolution where similarly-sized Android phones like the Sony Xperia S have 720p displays. That’s more than double the number of pixels in the same space.

Its CPU also sounds a little sluggish, with a single core to its name when – again – top-end Androids use quad-core chips these days. However, thanks to Windows Phone’s optimisation, the Lumia 900 still looks and feels sharp.

The Nokia Lumia 900 is available for free on contracts of around £35 and above, or SIM-free for just under £500. Is it too low-tech for such a chunk of change? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
