Nokia Launches New XpressMusic Range

Handsets for our recession hit times.

Nokia told us it would be announcing new XpressMusic phones today and guess what…

A trio of new handsets are out in the wilderness hitting the mid to low range range and perfectly decent they seem too.

At the head of the queue is the ‘5730 XpressMusic’ the line’s first model to feature a full sliding Qwerty keyboard, a 3.2MP camera, WiFi and GPS. Perhaps more importantly however, the 5730 also features a redesign of the UI to integrate the company’s Ovi software. This adds a nifty INQ1-esque shortcut bar along the bottom to quickly access social networking apps, online downloads and more. It’ll drop in Q2 for 280 euros sim free.

Dropping down a step we come to the 5330, a slider with 2MP camera, large 24 hour audio battery life and the ‘5030’, a candy bar with large external rear speaker (lucky public transport commuters) and equally epic battery life but no camera. Neither support 3G, GPS or WiFi. Sensibly, all XpressMusic handsets do continue to sport 3.5mm headphone jacks and FM tuners. The 5330 will go for just 160 euros when it lands in Q3 with the 5030 costing a meagre 40 euros without contract in Q2.

So nothing particularly mind blowing but, as ever, they are Nokia’s – they’ll work just fine.
