Nokia Asha 310 launched with dual SIM and Wi-Fi

Nokia has launched the Nokia Asha 310, the latest in its line of affordable smartphones, which this time comes with Wi-Fi and dual SIM capabilities.

The Nokia Asha 310 follows on from the Nokia Asha 308 and the Nokia Asha 309, which were launched in September of last year. Like those two phones, the Nokia Asha 310 runs on Nokia’s ancient but heavily-tweaked Series 40 OS.

In terms of specs, the Nokia Asha 310 is a typically modest and compact affair. It employs a small 3-inch 400 x 240 capacitive touchscreen display and weighs just 103.7g.

Things are similarly tight inside the Nokia Asha 310 – it contains just 128MB of internal storage. This is expandable thanks to a microSD slot, however.

Around back sits a modest 2-megapixel camera, and there’s no 3G connectivity.

Where the Nokia Asha 310 really stands out is in its unique combination of Wi-Fi and dual SIM capabilities. Nokia claims it’s the first of its handsets to employ both at the same time.

Dual SIM, as you might have guessed, means that you can run two different mobile accounts from your phone simultaneously. Given the number of people running around with two phones in their pocket (usually one work, one personal), this could be an extremely handy feature.

The other attractive part of the Nokia Asha 310 is its price. Thanks to those extremely modest specs, the phone can be had for just $102 (before tax).

Add in the Nokia Xpress Browser, which compresses internet data by as much as 90 per cent, and you have a highly cost-effective phone.

The Nokia Asha 310 will initially be made available in Asia, India, the Middle East, Africa and Brazil starting in the first quarter of 2013.
