Nokia 808 PureView UK Release Date Outed

The Nokia 808 PureView was one of the bigger phone stories of MWC 2012 thanks to its amazing 41MP camera. And you’ll be able to get hold of one from 23 April according to a UK online retailer.

Although Nokia is yet to let out an official release date for the snap-happy camera phone, retailer Unlocked Mobiles has posted that the 808 PureView will be available to buy from 23 April. It also has a price – £464.98 SIM-free. As yet we do not know of any major networks that will supply the device, and hence you may need to buy outright to get one.

The 808 – definitely better than a 404

The one attractive feature of the phone is its camera. Using very clever technology, Nokia has managed to fit a 41MP sensor into the frame of a fairly normal-sized phone. Sample pics posted by Nokia suggest it should be able to comfortably outclass the best out there, and the ultra-high resolution means you’ll be able to use the inbuilt digital zoom without making your photos look an awful blurry mess.

The rest of the Nokia 808 PureView is less remarkable, however. It runs the latest Belle version of Symbian, an OS about as attractive as a two-week-old banana. Its screen is 4in across and the CPU running the show is a 1.3GHz single-core chip. Lumia 800
A Nokia Lumia 800 with a 41MP camera? Yes please.

As much as we’d like to take the phone on a photography day trip around London, it works best as a tech demo of sorts. Nokia has already confirmed that the tech inside the 808 PureView is coming to future Windows Phone mobiles, probably under the Lumia banner. Now that’s a phone we’re looking forward to testing.
