Nokia 3310 gets a 4G LTE injection but only in China

HMD has quietly pushed out a 4G model of the Nokia 3310 giving the budget retro remake access to speedy mobile broadband.

Currently only being offered in China for a February release, the 4G LTE-enabled Nokia 3310 is an unusual version of the re-imagined classic phone as it runs YunOS.

Based on Android, YunOS runs native Android apps but lacks established compatibility for other apps, which could limit its use when compared to other 3310 models.

But the new Nokia 3310 does offer some extra features notably it now has Wi-Fi connectivity and can be used as a mobile hotspot thanks to the 4G compatibility.

This could make the new 3310 a useful device for people who spend a lot of time working on the move and don’t want to use up all their data or battery life on their main smartphone.

With a removable 1200mAh battery pack, HMD is touting a 12 days of 4G standby battery life for the 3310. That should mean it could power a Wi-Fi hotspot for some time before the battery gives up the ghost.

There’s no word on how much the new Nokia 3310 will cost in China, though we don’t expect it to be much more expensive than the 3310 remake released last year. And HMD hasn’t revealed if the new 3310 will make it out of China and into other markets.

However, we can expect to hear more from HMD and the Nokia brand at Mobile World Congress 2018, so make sure you keep checking back with us for all the updates and news.
