Nintendo Wii U pre-orders delivered ahead of release

Ahead of tomorrow’s November 30 Nintendo Wii U UK release date, a selection of Nintendo Wii U pre-orders have started hitting customer’s doorsteps early.

Jumping the gun on Nintendo’s eagerly awaited next-generation console, online retail giant Amazon yesterday told a number of pre-order customers that their Nintendo Wii U had been shipped with a November 29 delivery date. According to Slashgear, the retailer has kept its word with a selection of avid gamers have today posted pictures of their Nintendo Wii replacement following its early arrival.

With Nintendo Wii U pre-orders kicking off back in September, launch stocks have been reported to have dwindled prior to launch as high demand sees Nintendo Wii U stock shortages likely ahead of the pre-Christmas rush.

Already out in America, despite a hefty 400,000 Nintendo Wii U consoles having been shifted during the device’s opening week on sale in the US, these lofty figures are down considerably on the week one Nintendo Wii sales figures from 2006 when Nintendo saw 600,000 units shifted. As a further blow to the Wii U launch, Microsoft revealed that Xbox 360 sales topped 750,000 units during the black Friday week earlier this month.

Nintendo Wii U Features
With the Nintendo Wii U focal point being its Nintendo Wii U GamePad controller, the console’s new tablet-esque input device is to offer a new raft of possibilities and second screen gaming experiences. Allowing users to continue playing even after the connected TV has been turned off or switched to another channel, the Nintendo Wii U GamePad boasts a 6.2-inch, 16:9 aspect ratio LCD touch screen display.

The oversized controller is also said to feature a 3 to 5 hour battery life with the more expensive of the two Wii U consoles options, there are ‘Basic’ and ‘Premium’ packages available, coming boxed with a charging stand.

With both consoles coming boxed with a single Nintendo Wii U GamePad, a GamePad stylus and the expected collection of power and HDMI connection cables, those who plump for the more expensive Nintendo Wii U Premium option will see their console partnered with a GamePad charging stand, GamePad playing stand, Wii U stand and a copy of the NintendoLand game.

More than just a variation in bundled accessories, the Nintendo Wii U Basic model is set to launch with a white finish and 8GB of internal flash memory, whereas the more expensive Nintendo Wii U Premium will line up with a black outer shell and 32GB of inbuilt storage.

Nintendo Wii U Release Date and Price
Although Nintendo has confirmed that the Nintendo Wii U will be sold at a loss, the new gaming outlet is still far from the cheapest option on the market with Nintendo Wii U Basic and Nintendo Wii U Premium prices set at £260 and £310 respectively.

Although thanks to Amazon the first Nintendo Wii U pre-orders have already started being delivered, tomorrow’s November 30 Nintendo Wii U release date will see retailers stock the console for the first time. Allowing eager gamers to get their mitts on the device as early as possible, a selection of retailers are to hold midnight openings this evening.
