Nintendo Switch Lite gets a new colour and we’re tickled pink

Nintendo has revealed a coral pink iteration of the Nintendo Switch Lite console to coincide with the forthcoming launch of the game Animal Crossing: New Horizons next month.

The company has so far confirmed the new hue will be arriving in Japan on March 20 and will join the turquoise, grey and yellow consoles already available. Naturally it’s priced the same.

Nintendo of America has confirmed the coral pink Switch Lite will launch on April 3, but there’s no news on a UK launch just yet. We’ll keep you posted as and when Nintendo announces the console for the UK market.

We can’t seen any reason why it wouldn’t be available in Britain, and it’s a nice Spring-like colour to bring us out of the perennial stormy doldrums of February.

Nintendo might be launching this option to compensate for the delays caused by the themed Animal Crossing Switch, which won’t arrive on schedule due to the effects of the coronavirus.

The Switch Lite has been a massively popular follow-up to the hybrid desktop and handheld Switch console. The Lite version is handheld only, slightly smaller and only has permanently attached Joy-Cons.

We praised the console for its robust design, large line-up of games, and longer battery life than the original. The only drawbacks were the inability to support some games and more difficult access to multiplayer options due to the inability to dock the device.

Last last year our reviewer wrote: “The Nintendo Switch Lite is an excellent portable console that refines the display, buttons and overall form factor of its older sibling. Yet the sacrifice of docked play will be a deal-breaker for some. If you’re yet to purchase a Switch, however, and are purely interested in portable play without the need for local multiplayer, the Nintendo Switch Lite is a no-brainer.”
