Nintendo NX nearing completion, production prepped for early 2017 release

Even with Microsoft and Sony making big moves to boost their next-gen offerings, the Nintendo NX arguably remains the most intriguing console currently in the works.

With the company expecting to release it’s mysterious next step by March 2017, any word of potential production schedules is certainly worth taking note of.

As such, Nintendo’s director of manufacturing has revealed the mass production of the console is being prepared, but not yet underway.

All that’s left is to consider how much of the process Nintendo will automate, said Hirokazu Shinshi (via SegmentNext) during the recent annual shareholder’s meeting.

This suggests Nintendo may have completed the final designs and is simply figuring out how to go about building the NX in the most cost effective way possible.

Speaking on the subject of automation Hirokazu Shinshi said: “I’m in charge of manufacturing. Labour costs have shot up in the last 10 years in China and across ASEAN nations. Manufacturing automation has long been practised in Japan, and is now done in China.

“While making the same product for a long time, the amount manufactured changes based on things like the Christmas season. It’s easy to automate unchanging production amounts, but it’s difficult when they do change.

“We’re thoroughly communicating with our partners to make adjustments. As for the NX, manufacturing is being prepped. We’re considering how much to automate.”

Unfortunately we still know very little for sure about the Nintendo NX console, with Nintendo pulling a virtual no-show at the E3 gaming expo.
