Nikon 1 J3 compact system camera released

Nikon has released a new addition to the Nikon 1 J series of compact system cameras, the Nikon 1 J3.

The Nikon 1 J3 follows fairly closely on the heels of the Nikon 1 J2, and offers the same balance of extreme portability with decent image quality and interchangeable lenses.

Nikon claims that the Nikon 1 J3 boasts the world’s smallest body, the world’s shortest release time lag, and the world’s fastest continuous shooting (15fps) for an interchangeable lens camera.

Nikon 1 J3 Specs
Following on from the Nikon 1 J1 and the Nikon 1 J2, Nikon has stuck with a 1-inch CX image sensor for the Nikon 1 J3. This places it between your average point and shoot  camera and the larger APS-C format used by the likes of the Sony NEX-6. It’s the same image sensor size as that found in the popular Sony RX100.

However, the Nikon 1 J3 boosts the megapixel count from 10.1 in previous J-series cameras to 14.2-megapixels, and features 160 to 6400 ISO sensitivity. It features the same 3-inch 921k resolution LCD monitor, but runs on Nikon’s improved Expeed 3A dual-processing engine.

Smart Photo Selector allows you to take 20 shots in quick succession, then recommends the five best. Meanwhile Slow View takes 20 quick-fire shots in order to give you a slow motion view of the event.

The Nikon 1 J3 allows you to shoot Full HD 1080p video at 60fps, and will allow you to take pictures whilst filming. Advanced Movie Mode allows you to use the PSAM settings to gain full control over aperture and shutter speed when filming.

Nikon 1 J3 Release Date and Price

There’s no news on the price or availability of the Nikon 1 J3, but we do know it will be available in five colours: silver, red, white, black, and beige, with kit lenses to match.
