Nike has made $1,200 sunglasses that are kinda just sunglasses
If you were spending $1,200 on pair of sunglasses, you’d probably want them to include Microsoft’s HoloLens technology, shoot lasers like Cyclops in X-Men or, at least, ensure you see like Arnie in Terminator.
Nike and optics wizards Zeiss have announced a pair of $1,200 (£917) sunglasses that’ll protect your eyes pretty well, stay on your face, and reduce pressure points on the face.
You see, the Nike Wing shades have been built for Olympians, rather than mere mortals, and feature a wraparound design similar to the ones Bret “Hitman” Hart used to sport back in the 90s.
They’ll reduce pressure on the bridge of the nose and ears, which are the “places that create a lot of pressure and exhaustion” for elite distance runners, says Nike’s eyewear designer Martha Moore (via Wired).
These sunnies have no hinges, touch the face and head in fewer places and, thanks to the strap, there’s a secure fit according to Nike’s designers.
They also feature the Nike Speed Tint technology which allows in calming red light, while reducing glare.
Still, $1,200? At least those sporting them in Rio will probably get them free. If you’re tempted, you can snap up the Nike Wing from the firm’s site today.
