Nexus 6 set for October launch says WSJ
The Google Nexus 6 looks set for launch some time this month, according to a respected US source.
Many outlets seem to be having their say on when Google’s first phablet will be unveiled, but the company itself has given little evidence that anything is imminent. The general view until now has been of a late October or possibly early November unveiling.
Now the Wall Street Journal has weighed in with the assertion that the Nexus 6, code-named Shamu, will indeed launch in October. It cites three anonymous sources familiar with the matter.
Last year, the Nexus 5 launched on October 31. There was no glitzy launch event for Google’s current (for the next couple of weeks) flagship phone, so it’s possible that Google will skip one for the follow-up too.
The report also confirms that the Nexus 6 will have a 5.9-inch display, and that it will be made by Motorola. Those points were already pretty much known, of course, and it’s the launch information that’s most useful here.
Other leaks and rumours have suggested that the Nexus 6 will carry a Snapdragon 805 CPU clocked at 2.65GHz, and that its 6-inch screen will sport a 2,560 x 1,440 pixel UHD or 2K resolution. A 3,200mAh battery is also expected.
As the report points out, Google’s launch of its first phablet comes at a time of vastly increased competition, with Apple launching the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus in recent weeks.
