Nexus 5X deal adds free Chromecast and £20 Play Store credit

Google has unveiled a Nexus 5X Valentine’s Day deal on its Google Store.

We’re not entirely sure what the link is between a day used to sell greetings cards and Google’s mid-range Android 6.0 smartphone.

It seems Google doesn’t either, as the offer in question runs from January 26 to February 12 – that’s two days before Valentine’s Day. But we’ll take it anyway.

Buy a Nexus 5X smartphone from the Google Store between those aforementioned dates, and you’ll be able to claim a Google Chromecast 2 worth £30 for free. You’ll need to add one of Google’s media streaming devices to your basket manually.

You’ll also get £20 worth of Google Play Store credit thrown in, so you can start your joint Nexus and Chromecast ownership with a healthy spread of new apps, music, and video content to stream from one to the other.

We found the Nexus 5X to be a fine mid-range, with strong performance from its Snapdragon 808 CPU, a sharp 12.3-megapixel camera, and of course sweet stock Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The latest Chromecast, meanwhile, is fine evolution of the original media streaming stick, with a more flexible design and faster Wi-Fi connectivity. Note that the offer doesn’t include the Chromecast Audio.
