iPad Mini 4 casing revealed in video leak

The casing of Apple’s next-generation iPad Mini appears to have been leaked in a new video.

The footage comes courtesy of OnLeaks, offering several clues as to what we can expect from the iPad Mini 4.

The most obvious design change is that the orientation lock-cum-mute switch has been dropped from the right side of the device. It’s particularly worth noting because Apple made the exact same decision with its iPad Air 2 late last year.

Muting and locking on the iPad Air 2 is now achieved through the iOS software, and it seems as though the iPad Mini 4 is headed in the same direction.

Another point to note is that there’s now a cut-out at the top of the casing, which AppleInsider suggests could be where Apple will position an LTE modem.

There’s also a Lightning connector port on the bottom, which signals that Apple hasn’t given up on the technology just yet.

It recently opted for a Type C connector in the new MacBook, which is expected to become standard for mobile devices in the coming years.

Aside from the new leaks, it’s also been rumoured that the next iPad Mini will ship with an A8 processor and 802.11ac Wi-Fi, neither of which appeared on last year’s device refresh.

Apple’s iPad Mini 3 revamp late last year was fairly unimpressive, with the only key change being the addition of a Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

It’s worth noting that we can’t verify the leaked footage, and Apple likely won’t reveal the new device – if it even exists – until autumn this year.
