Ubisoft has confirmed that there won’t be an Assassin’s Creed game released in 2016.
For the first time since the series started in 2009, Ubisoft won’t be releasing a major entry in the Assassin’s Creed series this year.
That’s official too, not just another rumour. It’s even on the Ubisoft blog.
“This year, we also are stepping back and re-examining the Assassin’s Creed franchise. As a result, we’ve decided that there will not be a new Assassin’s Creed game in 2016,” reads the message from the Assassin’s Creed team.
“Since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, we’ve learned a lot based on your feedback. We’ve also updated our development processes and recommitted to making Assassin’s Creed a premier open-world franchise.”
“We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground.”

As much as I love the Assassin’s Creed series it feels like a welcome change that we won’t be seeing a major entry this year.
It could certainly do with a little rest and a fresh perspective.
However, we’ve already had one Assassin’s game this year in the form of Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia.
And the game is going mobile for the first time later this month, with an entry called Assassin’s Creed Identity.
