A new report claims the next Assassin’s Creed may be set in Egypt, but may not launch this year.
It seems that 2016 might be the first time in six years that Ubisoft doesn’t release a new Assassin’s Creed title.
According to sources speaking to Kotaku – a site well known for breaking accurate Assassin’s Creed news months in advance – the next series entry will not be released in Q4 2016.
Instead it will slip into sometime in 2017.
What’s more, the next game is tipped to be set in ancient Egypt and will be allegedly called Assassin’s Creed: Empire.
Previous rumours about the next Assassin’s Creed game suggested it would be set in Rome, although there’s also suggestions the game will follow a protagonist across a three-part series that moves from Egypt to Rome and potentially Greece as well.

Apparently the disappointing reception, both critically and commercially, of Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate made the decision to push the next game into 2017.
If these rumours are true, we’ll still have the Assassin’s Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender to look forward to this December.
Plus, we’ve got two entries into the Assassin’s Creed Chronicles spin-off series to look forward to in the coming weeks as well.
Other rumours suggest Ubisoft may well be busy with a few other games as well. For example, there’s The Division, which is launching in March. But there are also rumblings that Watch Dogs 2, which is expected to be set in San Francisco, will launch later this year too.
