Next Apple Pencil may have an eraser and new tips

A newly unearthed patent suggests Apple has plans to improve its don’t-call-it-a-stylus Pencil.

AppleInsider
has the details on a filing that reveals a new Pencil complete with an eraser and interchangeable tips.

According to the USPTO document, there’d be a host of nib options, ranging from felt pens to motion tracking cameras.

It also mentions a force-sensing bristle brush and a flashlight. There’s even talk of a lead tip that would then translate on-paper doodles onto the digital screen.

The new iteration of the iPad Pro peripheral could even have an Apple TouchID sensor to authenticate users, according to the patent.

The Apple Pencil debuted along the iPad Pro late last year and is also compatible with the new 9.7-inch version of the professionally-slanted slate.

It’s unlikely any new version of the accessory would arrive until Apple refreshes the line up.

That’ll be October at the earliest.

Oh, and it’s a stylus. #SorryNotSorry.
