New Xbox Reveal: Xbox One formally unveiled as PS4 rival

The new Xbox One has been formally unveiled as Microsoft’s next-generation games console and direct PS4 rival.

Following years of rumours and endless speculation, the third-generation Xbox console has been officially shown off at Microsoft’s big XboxReveal, with the next-gen console to be formally known as the Xbox One.

Making the announced, Don Mattrick of Microsoft stated: “Today we put you at the centre of a new generation of entertainment.” He added: “This console is built to impress on day one and continue to impress as we move forward.”

Focusing on both gaming and multimedia capabilities, the new Xbox One was officially unveiled alongside a revised Kinect peripheral and a remodelled controlled.

Stating “The living room has changed radically over the last eight years,” Mattrick added: “Today we look forward, increadable shifts are happening across games and entertainment. Audiences are spending their time enjoying different types of content.”

Xbox One Features
Built around PC based architecture, similar to the PS4, the new Xbox One features list sees an eight-core CPU partnered with 8GB of RAM, a combination which promises impressive graphics and strong visuals. With a 500GB HDD providing ample storage space, the Xbox One adds the Blu-ray player that was missing from its predecessor.

Offering ample connectivity options, the Xbox One plays host to 802.11n Wireless capabilities with Wi-Fi Direct for improved online options, as well as HDMI in and out connections and USB 3.0 support.

Focussing heavily on the entertainment aspects of the console and create and more connected, immersive home entertainment device, Microsoft has revealed that the new Xbox One will come paired with a reworked Kinect 2 peripheral and allow for advanced voice and motion controls.

Capable of recognising individual users based on visual and audio signals, the Xbox One can react to the voice command “Xbox On” and automatically log users in to their own specific user accounts.

Xbox One Date and Price

As is often the case with these announcements, a finalised Xbox One release date has yet to be formally confirmed. That said, Microsoft has revealed an Xbox One release date will be held ‘around the world later this year’. An Xbox One price is still unknown.
