New Windows Phone handset leaks with 2K display

With Windows Phone 8.1 expected to be unveiled later today, the platform could be about to get a serious handset boost as a WP smartphone with a 2K display leaks online.

Making an early appearance courtesy of a leaked benchmark test, the tipped handset could be ready to one-up the flagship likes of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8, both of which feature 1080p Full HD panels.

Shown to be powered by the recently confirmed Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and appearing under the header of the Qualcomm LiQUID, the mooted handset is believed to be a development device.

Despite not being attributed to Nokia, HTC or any other leading Windows Phone handset manufacturer, it is expected that the testing handset could soon be followed by a commercially available full production sibling.

As well as the brand new CPU and future-proof 2560 x 1440 2K Quad HD display, the leaked Windows Phone handset has been shown to run an Andreno 420 GPU.

With Windows Phone 8.1 widely tipped for a formal showing during Microsoft’s Build 2014 conference this evening, recent leaks have suggested the software will add improved camera and voice command abilities as well as a remodelled notification centre.

What’s more, in a bid to better compete with Google’s Android OS, Microsoft will make its platform compatible with a broader range of hardware options.

Although 2K smartphones have been repeatedly leaked and teased in recent months, high-profile Android manufacturers have repeatedly failed to bring the technology to market.

Stay tuned to TrustedReviews for all the latest from Build and hopefully word on the first 2K Windows Phone handset.
