New The Order: 1886 trailer introduces Lycan half-breeds

A brand new The Order: 1886 trailer has been released, showcasing the Lycan half-breeds of the game.

Developer Ready at Dawn has launched a brand new trailer for The Order: 1886, which gives fans a look at how the team brought the Lycans to life.

These slightly werewolf-like creatures are based on lore from different countries and are as bestial as a wolf, but still retaining the human qualities as well.

“One thing that we thought at the very beginning is that, what if war wasn’t one society against another, one religion against another, one people against another people? What if we segmented the race that we are and formed something that is partly us,  but not really like us? The half-breeds were formed out of that,” said Ru Weerasuriya , Creative Director and CEO at Ready at Dawn.

As you can see from the above concept art, they still are anatomically similar to humans, but they’re taller, stronger and have thicker skins that we.

“We tried to basically always have some basic degree of performance in them that carries a level of intelligence,” said Dana Jan, Game Director. “They are smart, and I think that, to me, is actually the scariest thing about them. When something can look at you, size you up and be your equal, if not above you, I think it becomes very, very scary.”

Ready at Dawn has aimed to make the Lycans still have a strong human element, so there will still be a sense of who that person used to be in the Lycan anatomy.

“One of the pillars of the game was that we have, not just Lycans, but the ability to transform a human into a Lycan,” said Garrett Foster, Technology Director. “We want a continuous, no cut, shot of this happening. What that means is transforming the anatomy.”

As they’re transforming, you’ll see the skeletons changing, hair growing and even the big toe become a dew-claw.

Unlike other monsters in games, the Lycans are all about being believable and from the looks of the brief gameplay clips in this latest trailer, they’re certainly that.
