New Sky Now TV box arriving on August 6

Sky has announced the availability of its next-gen Now TV streaming box, just in time for the start of the Premier League football season this weekend.

Refreshed with a new, rounded, black design, the £14.99 set-tip box will go on sale on Thursday August 6 and will be available to buy from Argos one day later (via Recombu).

Those picking up the box will supposedly benefit from a processor five-times faster than the predecessor. There’s also the addition of an Ethernet port, over the original WiFi-only connectivity.

Sky has also promised an updated UI will be rolled out, in order to match that of the Now TV desktop portal. There’s been no upgrade on the streaming resolution, with the box continuing to pump out content at 720p.

The launch of the box comes as Sky continues to boost its commitment-free streaming options for those unwilling to take out a satellite TV subscription.

Last last month it announced a Sky Sports Monthly Pass would be added to the daily and weekly passes already available.

The £31.99 offering will bring access to all of the Sky Sports channels, with the next month featuring the start of the BPL season and what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to The Ashes cricket series between England and Australia.

By comparison the daily and weekly passes are $6.99 and £10.99 respectively.

The original Now TV box, made by Roku, was a huge hit among consumers for its affordable price point and the presence of other catch-up apps from providers like BBC iPlayer and 4oD.
