A new version of the Sky EPG has started rolling out in the UK. Owners of Sky Plus HD boxes are among the first to get the new update, which will continue spreading to other users throughout the year.
Sky says that “tens of thousands” of boxes will get the update from today, with the other less-fortunate millions due to get the nod later on. If you’re lucky enough to have the update already, drop us a line in the comments.
The updated Sky electronic programme guide offers a newly-tweaked look that’s geared more towards how we watch TV these days – more on-demand and pre-recorded viewing, less tied to the broadcast schedule.
On-demand content is now woven more tightly into the interface, and genre filtering has been improved – useful for the more voracious consumers of recorded and on-demand movies in particular. More channels have also been squeezed onto the page – up to eight from the current six – making channel surfing quicker.
Sky reiterates that Sky owners shouldn’t expect to see the update immediately – that the new EPG is being introduced “introduced over the coming months” – the only promise that it’ll be fully rolled-out by the end of the year.
