Nintendo has revealed it sold around 335,000 New Nintendo 3DS units in the US and Europe during launch week.
According to the figures released as part of the company’s latest financial briefing, the New 3DS and New 3DS XL have proved exceedingly popular in the US and Europe.
In the US, Nintendo shifted around 175,000 New 3DS, while in the EU, the company sold around 160,000.
Nintendo also confirmed that both New 3DS launch titles, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, sold better than the previous games in each respective series.
Majora’s Mask 3D sales topped 340,000 in the US and 230,000 in Europe, whereas sales for Zelda: A Link Between Worlds only reached 180,000 and 150,000 in the US and Europe respectively.
Sales for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate in the EU topped 110,000, while Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate only managed to sell around 40,000. In the UK alone, that’s a 95 per cent sales increase between titles.

Nintendo added that sales for the new amiibo NFC toy range have topped 5.7 million units worldwide, with 63 per cent of those sales in the US and Canada alone. 23 per cent have been sold in Europe, 11 per cent in Japan and just 3 per cent in Australia.
Out of all the toys, Link has been the most popular in Europe, Northern America and Japan. Across all the regions, the top five characters are pretty much the same and include Pikachu, Yoshi, Samus and Kirby.
Nintendo’s chart of figurines sold to customers showed that the harder to find figures were bought up as soon as possible, as you’d expect. Those figures include Little Mac, Rosalina, Wii Fit Trainer and Animal Crossing’s Villager.
The company also revealed a vague summer release for the old 3DS NFC adaptor for the amiibo characters – at least in Japan. There’s no word on an international release at present.
