Apple has unleashed a new batch of beta releases for its core operating systems as the public testing period draws near.
The second iOS 9 developer beta introduces a new left-sided menu for Siri’s new smart personal assistant feature Proactive, which could rival the excellent Google Now service.
There’s also a new Notes app, new features within Apple Maps and a redesigned multi-tasking screen, which makes it easier to switch between applications, while reintegrating Continuity.
There’s also a neat new feature enabling users to temporarily delete apps to make space for software updates. Those apps will be replaced when the update is complete. That, along with iOS 9’s condensed size, should end the days of users being unable to make space to get the latest versions installed on their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
Elsewhere, Apple has also launched a new beta version of Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan, which introduces the long-awaited split-screen multitasking feature. The desktop software also gets the revamped Notes app, new Mission Control features and various bug fixes.

Finally, Apple has also issued a new preview of its next-gen WatchOS, which paves the way for developers to begin building native apps, complete with access to the digital crown, microphone, speaker and sensors.
Within this second beta there’s also a night stand clock mode and three new watch faces.
