HTC has confirmed that it has a Flyer tablet follow-up in the works. The first HTC tablet took a swift commercial nosedive at release, but the next will have a unique selling point, according to HTC.
An HTC spokesperson has told PC Advisor that a new tablet is currently being worked on, and that it will come to the UK. No further details were squeezed from the HTC rep, beyond that it will offer something “unique”. The original HTC Flyer‘s USP was that it had a stylus you could take notes quickly with, but now that the Samsung Galaxy Note has joined that party, just adding a pen isn’t quite enough to make a tablet really stand out.
What could it be? HTC has often put a heavy emphasis on the Sense software that’s at the centre of most of its phones and tablets – new software bells and whistles is one possibility. Let’s hope it’s something more exciting though, eh?
If it is a direct follow-up of the HTC Flyer, the new HTC tab will be in direct competition with the Google Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire 2. The Flyer was a 7in Android tablet, designed to be more portable than an iPad. However, it was not a great commercial success – not helped by the slightly obscene original RRP of £599.
