New Audi R8 V10 RWS will cost you £110,000 – and it’s seriously limited edition

Audi has debuted a new version of the Audi R8 sports cars with a new limited edition rear-wheel drive model that’s lighter than its predecessor.
As the Frankfurt Motor Show races on, German automaker Audi has unveiled a speedy spin-off to the core Audi R8 series – the Audi R8 V10 RWS. As the name suggests, the new model features a V10 engine and operates on a rear-wheel drive system, which is a first for the R8.
The new two-seater model is 50kg lighter than the R8 Coupé V10, and achieves a combined fuel consumption of 12.4 – 12.6 litres per 100km. The V10 engine is capable of delivering peak torque of 540Nm at 6,500rpm, and can produce an impressive 540hp.

“The R8 V10 RWS is made for purists,” said Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Audi Sport. “A limited-edition special model for customers with an appreciation for essential driving enjoyment, the R8 V10 RWS is an absolutely exclusive offer.”
He continued: “With its mid-mounted V10 engine and rear-wheel drive, it successfully brings the driving concept of our R8 LMS racing car to the streets.”
Unsurprisingly, given the extreme nature of the components on board, the engine is capable of pushing the Audi R8 V10 RWS from zero to a speed of 100km/h in just 3.7 seconds, which beats the 3.8 seconds achieved by the Spyder variant.

The new Audi R8 V10 RWS also boasts an impressive speed of 320km/h, which works out at about 198.8mph. The improvements are partly courtesy of a 50kg weight saving (compared to the all-wheel drive R8 Coupé).
Sounds great, so what’s the bad news? Well, firstly the car will set you back €140,000 for the Coupé and €153,000 for the Spyder. In the UK, the car starts at £110,000. It’ll be available for order in autumn 2017, and the first units will hit the streets in early 2018. However, there’ll be just 999 units manufactured, which makes this a seriously limited edition offering – so snap one up quickly, if you’ve got a bit of spare change.
