New Asus Zenbook models revealed

Three new Asus Zenbook Ultrabooks were today launched, all equipped with 14 or 15-inch screens, Windows 8 and Intel Core processors.

According to Engadget, the Asus Zenbook UX42VS, UX52VS and U500VZ will all go on sale in the US in November, although a specific release date has not been revealed.

The Asus Zenbook UX42VS is a 14-inch model that weighs 1.9kg and is a slender 6mm at its thinnest point. There’s still space for an optical drive in there, as well as an Nvidia GT645M graphics card with 1GB of dedicated video RAM. Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processor options will be available, and a fully loaded model can be equipped with 6GB of RAM and a 1TB hybrid hard drive. The Zenbook UX42VS price is rumoured to start at $699 (around £440 at the time of writing).

The other two models have 15-inch screens. The Asus Zenbook UX52VS (pictured above) can be equipped with either an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, up to 10GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, and features the same GT645M graphics as the smaller model.

The Asus Zenbook UX500VZ, meanwhile, isn’t technically an Ultrabook, as it features a standard voltage i7 processor with four cores. There’s 8GB of RAM, a 1920 x 1080 display resolution and a powerful Nvidia GT650M graphics card with 2GB of dedicated memory. Despite the beefy specifications, Asus seems to have kept this model fairly portable: it reportedly weighs 2kg and, like the 14-inch UX42VS is 6mm thin at its slimmest point.

There are few pricing details for the new Asus Zenbooks at present, but Engadget claims the most expensive configuration will cost $2,000 (around £1,250).
