New Apple MacBook gets first unboxing

The new Apple MacBook, complete with its Retina Display and single USB Type-C port, has shown up in a full unboxing video.

The 12-inch device, which is Apple’s slimmest and lightest laptop ever, won’t go on sale until April 10, but Vietnamese site Tinhte.vn has gotten its hands on the device.

As you can see in the video below, the site seems to have obtained a retail version of the hotly-anticipated notebook and goes through the full unboxing rigmarole.

As we’ve seen plenty of the device from Apple and in our own hands-on preview, there isn’t too much new information to glean regarding the laptop itself. However, it is telling the MacBook comes in a box that could be easily mistaken for iPad packaging.

We also got an up close look at the 2-metre USB-C cable and 29-watt power brick. While it is longer than the standard iOS Lightning cables, it’s questionable whether that’ll be long enough for many MacBook users. The cable itself looks to be a little thicker and sturdier than those the company usually ships with its MagSafe models.

The brick itself is more akin to an iPad charging adapter as there’s none of the handy cable-winding hinges that pop up on MagSafe charging solutions.

Of course, the MacBook itself looks absolutely gorgeous. As well as the Retina Display and connectivity nuances, it’ll arrive rocking the new ForceTouch trackpad and butterfly-style keyboard with enlarged keys.

On the inside, it comes with the new Intel Core M processors, which will make the device less powerful than a MacBook Air, but will enable a fan-less design to ensure it runs more quietly. Battery life is said to be akin to the current 11-inch MacBook Air model, while there’ll be 4GB of RAM on offer.

We’ll have a full Apple MacBook 2015 review in the coming weeks.
