New 1TB Xbox One unveiled with reworked wireless controller

Microsoft has jumped the E3 gun, formally unveiling a new, 1TB Xbox One console ahead of next week’s LA-based show.

A device recently tipped for introduction, the 1TB Xbox One has now been officially debuted, with the high-capacity console to come bundled with a reworked controller.

Doing away with the company’s proprietary headphone port, the new controller will instead play host to a standard 3.5mm stereo headset jack – meaning you can use any traditional headphones or gaming headset with the 360 follow-on.

This modified connection is paired with integrated volume and mute buttons.

Set to be released with immediate effect, the new console’s 1TB capacity is twice the original PS4 rival’s 500GB storage.

Set to hit retailers alongside a modest £349.99 asking price, the 1TB Xbox One’s release has also seen the original model come down in price.

Now, the standard, 500GB Xbox One will be officially available for just £299.99.

For existing Xbox One owners after a controller that lets them make use of their own headsets, Microsoft has confirmed the coveted peripheral will be given a standalone release later in the year.

“Fans will be able to purchase the new controller as a standalone item in black from late summer, as well as a new camouflage design in silver and black with the Xbox One Special Edition Covert Forces Wireless Controller.” an official Xbox spokesperson announced.

Teasing future announcements, the manufacturer added: “We’ve got more accessories on the way, including the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows coming later this year.”

With E3 2015 kicking off next Monday, June 15, Microsoft has promised a big push on Xbox One games including a number of new IPs and a few ‘surprises’.
