Netflix on the Nintendo Switch? It could be here sooner than you think

Netflix is “locked and loaded” for a launch on the Nintendo Switch games console, apparently.

When the Nintendo Switch launched back in March 2017, many customers were confused. Here was a gaming console that doubled as a tablet, but the options for watching media were severely limited. Fans of the hugely popular device were left baffled by the absence of seemingly key apps like Netflix – and remain so to this day.

That could be about to change, however; a new rumour has emerged that suggests Netflix is ready to launch on the Nintendo Switch, but the media company is simply waiting for Nintendo to give the final approval and send the service live.

That’s according to GoNintendo, which claims a user of its site called KamehamehaX was told by a Netflix customer service rep that Netflix is “locked and loaded” for the Switch:

“Apparently, Netflix has been trying to get permission to launch their app on Switch, and as soon as Nintendo gives the go-ahead, the app can be added to the eShop. As of right now, Netflix is just waiting for Nintendo to give the green light.”

Nintendo has never explicitly said that it doesn’t want media apps on the Switch, but has maintained the line that it sees the handheld console as a gaming device first and foremost. That’s why it’s entirely possible – and probable, even – that Netflix will eventually make its way to the Switch.

Unfortunately, there’s absolutely no way of verifying this rumour, given the source in question. Neither Netflix nor Nintendo have made any announcements on the matter, so take this leak with due caution for now.

We’ve asked both Netflix and Nintendo for comment on the matter, and will update this article with any response.
