Netflix bingers brazen about watching sex scenes with strangers

More than two thirds of Netflix viewers are self-confessed public bingers, with most non-plussed when they catch someone snooping on their screen… even during steamy scenes.

In a survey of more than 36,000 members, 67% of respondents said they often watched their favorite shows while out in public.

Of those folks, 77% refuse to turn off the movie or TV show when in the vicinity of others, while only 18% have felt any embarrassment about what they’re watching.

Apparently, Netflix suggests, we’re all cool with watching sexy scenes with a stranger in close proximity, which is cool.

We’re also unafraid to show our emotions while watching in public, according to the survey.

“The majority of public bingers have laughed out loud and one in five have even cried while watching in public,” the company revealed in a blog post.

Not that we’re in the business of perpetuating outdated stereotypes, but Netflix says the survey confirmed it’s “unlikely to see a German bawling while they binge.”

Snoopers and spoilers

The Netflix survey has also revealed 45% of public bingers have caught other people peeping on their screen.

Meanwhile, 27% of folks have been interrupted by strangers for a quick chat about the movie or show they’re watching. How annoying.

However, while public watching is a walk in the park for some Netflix subscribers, it doesn’t always work out well for the rest of us.

11% of Netflix subscribers have fallen victim to spoilers while spying someone else’s screen.

The growth in viewing outside the home can be attributed to the ubiquity of Wi-Fi and Netflix’s offline downloads feature.

iOS and Android users can store select shows and films on their mobile device without the need to destroy their data allowance.
