Need for Speed reboot will not have micro-transactions or premium DLC

Developer Ghost Games has confirmed that the upcoming Need for Speed reboot will not feature micro-transactions or premium DLC.

In a recent Q&A, the developer has given us plenty of details about the new Need for Speed, including the fact that there are no plans to charge for DLC or integrate micro-transactions.

“We plan to release a series of free content updates for Need for Speed,” explained Ghost Games. “We currently have no plans for any paid DLC. There will be no micro-transactions.”

Earlier this week, it was announced that the Need for Speed PC edition had been delayed until spring 2016 to allow the developer to make it a better-looking title with an unlocked frame rate.

This is quite a departure for the series – even the most recent Need for Speed: Rivals was locked at 30fps on PC.

However, although the PC version may run at a higher frame rate, the Xbox One and PS4 versions will both be locked at 30fps.

“For any driving game a steady frame rate is incredibly important, and with Need for Speed we’re delivering super-high production values when it comes to both visuals and sound,” added Ghost Games.

“We always look to maximise the game technology with the platform technology for the experience we’re building, which is why the game will run at 30fps on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4. By doing this we ensure that your gameplay experience remains incredibly smooth and allows you to experience the high speed, adrenaline-fuelled gameplay that you’ve come to expect from the Need for Speed series.”

As mentioned previously, the Need for Speed reboot requires a constant internet connection in order to function, even when playing the single-player campaign.

“You will need a persistent internet connection, as Need for Speed is committed to being a live service so we can deliver an ongoing experience that is constantly changing and evolving,” continued Ghost Games. “We will include free content updates and challenges as an ever-present way for you to earn rewards and continually explore the game.”
