Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet live stream — How to watch Apple’s game developer comedy

Apple is making one of its first forays into comedy with a new show about game developers, Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet.

The show was created by the same people behind It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and promises to be one of the more light-hearted additions to the Apple TV Plus library.

The game developer team at the heart of the story is working on an MMORPG called Mythic Quest. It’s cut from the same cloth as World of Warcraft and we join the story as the team agonise over the game’s new expansion content entitled, Raven’s Banquet.

Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet — How to stream the show on any device, wherever you are

If Apple TV Plus isn’t available yet in your region, your best work-around solution might be a VPN. That’s because access to normal coverage might be geo-blocked – that is, you may be prevented from watching outside your home country, usually due to rights reasons.

VPNs encrypt and anonymise your data and enable you to appear as if you are watching from your home country, so they are useful for much more than entertainment.

Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet — Who is in the cast?

Show creator, Rob McElhenney, who masterminded the show alongside Charlie Day, of Always Sunny fame, features in the show as well as writing it. McElhenney, who plays Mac in Always Sunny, takes the role of the director of the studio’s MMORPG project.

F. Murray Abraham plays washed up novelist, C.W. Longbottom, Charlotte Nicado plays lead engineer, Poppy Li and Danny Pudi plays the game’s head of monetisation, Brad.

David Hornsby, another veteran of Always Sunny, also makes an appearance in the show as exec producer, David.

Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet — Preview

The series discusses gender politics in the workplace alongside other themes, such as the different ways gaming experiences are being monetised. There are of course plenty of gaming references but not ones that should exclude anyone who isn’t a dedicated gamer.

Initial reviews have been somewhat mixed, but it’s also true that It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia was not a hit from day one.

It’s also true of the sitcom genre that plots generally feel funnier when we understand the characters better, so there’s hope that the show can grow past the three star review it received from Rolling Stone and the three and a half stars currently accrued on Metacritic.

Hollywood Reporter said:

“Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet is set in the offices of a video game development studio, where childish behavior is condoned, childlike wonder is commodified, and, over the course of nine episodes, just enough laughs, insights and appealing characters are introduced that I’m assuming a second season might actually become truly funny.”
