Mystery 5.2-inch Sony Xperia handset benchmarked with Lollipop
An as yet unconfirmed 5.2-inch Sony smartphone has been spotted on both Geekbench and GFXBench, and it’s not the Xperia Z4.
The lack of flagship status has been confirmed by the fact the handset is running off a Snapdragon 615 processor, one of Qualcomm’s upper mid-tier processors.
The Xperia Z4, however, is almost assured to be powered by a chip from the Snapdragon 800-series, most likely the new Snapdragon 810.
We also know this isn’t part of the Sony Xperia E-series, because Sony unveiled its Xperia E4 smartphone just last week.
That leaves the most likely candidate as a successor to the Xperia C3, another mid-range Sony handset.
The benchmarked spec sheet, as reported by PhoneArena, certainly supports this theory, with the device using a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution display, and an octa-core 64-bit Snapdragon 615 chip.
There’s also a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter, 2GB of RAM and, just 4GB of built-in storage.

The device is listed under the model number ‘E2303’ on both sites, although this will certainly be stamped over with Xperia branding come release.
It’s also running off Android 5.0 Lollipop, which is Google’s latest Android operating system.
That’s especially interesting because Lollipop hasn’t even rolled out to any of Sony’s existing handsets, marking this new device as assuredly fresh.
We’ll update you as soon as this mysterious device officially lands.
