Although not quite important enough to make its way onto out list of (article:The-10-Most-Important-Games-Ever the 10 most important games ever), I can’t help but think if we’d stretched to a top 20 list, it would have been on there. It’s rather good to hear, therefore, that developers, Cyan, are planning to port the game to that most popular of mobile devices: the iPhone.
To quote from the forum post:
“This is a small project that probably a very few of you know about. We are porting Myst to the iPhone. Ok, before some of you start groaning, this is an outside funded project that is keeping a few developers employed… but it is really more than that. It is an interesting and fun project. This is also a very small team with three of us (working on the game).”
Three people isn’t exactly what you could call the world’s largest development team, but we won’t hold that against them. The iPhone may well be the perfect platform for the ingenious and fiendishly tricky gameplay that made Myst so excellent – Sudoku is okay, but I want a little more variety from my puzzles.
First Super Monkey Ball, then Spore and now Myst. The iPhone really is becoming a decent mobile gaming platform!
