MSI Outs U110 Eco Netbook

Touts 9-hour battery life.

MSI has given the Wind series yet another addition in the form of the U110 Eco, this netbook’s main party trick being battery life of “around” nine hours. Claimed figures to match Asus’ Eee PC 1000HE, which managed over seven hours of actual use in our testing.

Powering the U110 Eco is a 1.6GHz Atom, ATI HD3200 and, most notably, an Intel Poulsbo US15W chipset. The latter is what makes the U110 particularly interesting, as Intel’s specs for the part list full hardware decoding of H.264, Mpeg-2, VC1 and WMV9 video – hardly a common ability for a netbook. Dedicated graphics – courtesy the HD2100 chip – are also an interesting addition – especially as MSI doesn’t seem to think battery life will be harmed by their inclusion.

Elsewhere the U110 Eco is standard 10.2in netbook fare, with a 1,024 x 600 resolution display, Draft-N wireless and 80GB, 120GB and 160GB hard drive options. Oddly, given the potential HD-decoding capabilities of the system, video output is limited to D-Sub which isn’t exactly the connector of choice for such content.
