MSI Launches Slim 14in X460 and X460DX Notebooks

MSI has launched its new X460 chassis, part of its X Series of notebooks which aims to combine thin and light notebooks without compromising performance.

The new X460 is available in three configurations with two

aimed at the general user and the final one aimed at the business user. The top

cover and palm rest of the X460 chassis are covered in brushed aluminium and

measures 25mm thick. Other shared features include the 1366 x 768 glossy LCD,

HM65 chipset, WiDi 2.0 support, Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n wireless, two USB

3.0 ports and one USB 2.0 port, and a 1.3MP webcam.

The entry-level model is the MSI X460DX-008US, which costs

$749. This will get you i3-2310M CPU and GeForce GT 540M graphics, which is

quite a step up from the previous generation GPU. You’ll also get 500GB HDD,

4GB DDR3 RAM, DVD-RW, Windows Home Premium and an eight hour battery life is

Next up is the MSI X460DX-006US, with the main difference

being a bump up from Core i3 to the i5-2410M along with a boost to 6GB of RAM.

These additions will add $100 to the price and all other specs will remain the

The final model, the MSI X460-004US, is aimed squarely at

business users and as such the price has been bumped up to $1,100. Gone is the

dual-core Core i5 of the previous model, and in its place is a quad-core

i7-2630QM. Surprisingly the GT 540M is absent though, since this laptop is aimed

at the professional market, graphics power is not as important. The laptop also

includes Windows Professional, 750GB of storage and 6GB of RAM.

All models are now available on Amazon and Newegg, though Amazon’s listing says the laptops are only available for

pre-order. We have put a request into MSI regarding UK pricing and release

dates so we’ll let you know when it gets back to us.
