MSI GS30 Shadow laptop and gaming dock bundle unveiled
The MSI GS30 Shadow and Gaming Dock bundle has been announced at CES 2015.
Attempting to rival the PC gaming desktop performance in laptop shaped bundles to gamers, MSI has lifted the lid on the GS30 Shadow and Gaming Dock bundle.
The GS30 Shadow is a 13.3-inch gaming notebook, which is powered by the latest Intel 4th Gen Core i7-4870HQ, 16GB DDR 1600MHz RAM and Iris Pro graphics.
It comes with a 1920 x 1080p full HD resolution display and a pair of 128GB SSDs in a RAID 0 configuration.
MSI claims its the latest gaming notebook currently on the market, due to its 1.3kg weight.
The upgraded processor will mean that performance is double that of the previous MSI gaming notebook generation.
The GS30 Shadow itself also comes with support for OpenCL 1.2, OpenGL 4.0 and enhanced 4K x 2K.

However, the most interesting feature of the GS30 Shadow is the Gaming Dock, which allows you to use the processing power of a desktop GPU up to 14.3-inches in length, and add additional storage via a 3.5-inch hard drive slot.
It’ll also let you upgrade your audio by pumping the GS30 Shadow’s audio through its speakers.
MSI has been quick to state that the Gaming Dock has the full PCI-E x16 speed bandwidth, more than the PCI-E x4 speed bandwidth the Alienware Gaming Amplifier is limited to.
There’s no confirmed release date and you will have to buy the laptop and gaming dock as a bundle for now, for a very expensive $1700.
You’ll need to pay for a desktop video card on top of that for the Gaming Dock and an extra HDD for the bay if you decide you need it.
The bundle should go on sale later this January.
