Motorola Moto 360 smartwatch announced powered by Android Wear

The Motorola Moto 360 smartwatch powered by Android Wear has officially been announced.

Following Google’s Android Wear smartwatch OS announcement, Motorola has officially unveiled its first smartwatch.

Motorola is opting to go for a classic wristwatch style with a round face and what it calls “premium materials”.

“The quality of the craftsmanship and the design is incredibly important when it comes together for it to feel just distilled, elegant and beautiful”, explained Dickson Isaacs, part of Motorola’s wearables design team.

Using the Android Wear platform like the freshly announced LG G Watch, the Moto 360 uses subtle alerts and notifications to give you all the necessary information.

By twisting your wrist, the Moto 360 lets you know your latest notifications and you can access further functions through the “OK Google” voice command if you so wish.

“Moto 360 is a reinvention of the modern timepiece. Iconic, amazing piece of technology. It’s a game changer. Moto 360 begs to be worn,” explains the Moto 360 team.

The Moto 360 will be available across the world sometime in the summer, with the rollout starting in the US.

“It’s time for a watch that looks and feels great and gives you the information you need, when you need it,” added Lior Ron, CVP of Product Management at Motorola.

We have to admit, we’re rather taken with the design of the Moto 360 thanks to its ability to look like a normal analogue watch but still provide the smartwatch functionality.
