Moto X 2017 video leak finally gives the smartphone a name and some specs

Leaked footage has emerged of a presentation in China showing off the rumoured Moto X 2017 handset, along with a surprising spec list and, finally, a name to call it.

The brief video, originally posted on a China-based Baidu account by a member of the audience, and now copied on the Slashleaks YouTube channel, shows an unveiling of this year’s upcoming Moto X.

The video was leaked along with a list of specs, which debunks some of the leaked specs we heard about the handset back in March.

A Reddit user who translated audio in the background of the newly-leaked footage claims that, contrary to the March leak, which had the Moto X 2017 running on a Snapdragon 835 chip, the smartphone will come with the recently-announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor under the hood.

The smartphone will also have 4GB of RAM, 64GB of onboard storage and a 3800 mAh battery. It will also come with a laser autofocus camera and a front-facing fingerprint sensor, if the Reddit translator is indeed to be trusted.

Other leaked specs include IP68 water and dust resistance, always-on voice, and Turbo Charging support for the phone’s battery. There will also be a ‘smart camera’ and ‘AI integration’ – two features which remain pretty vague. The latter could well be a Siri or Google AI copycat.

Build-wise, the upcoming Moto X has a metal body, and a screen made of ‘3D glass’. Again, exactly what 3D glass is remains pretty hazy, and could just see the screen spilling over the sides of the phone, à la the Samsung Edge.

Moto X tweet

Tying a neat bow around the latest Moto X 2017 leak is a teaser from popular gadget leakster Evan Blass, or @evleaks. On Saturday, he followed up the leak by tweeting a convincing looking logo for the ‘Moto X4’. He didn’t cite a source, so we’ll take it with a healthy dose of cynicism for now – although it’s certainly less of a mouthful than the Moto X 2017.
