Moodbox is a speaker that reads your emotions

Would you like a speaker that can determine how you’re feeling and play music to suit your mood? That’s the promise of Moodbox.

The brain of it is called Emi. It learns about your taste in music by tracking what you listen to on a particular day, time or various weather conditions. The more you use it, the more it gets to know you. Then it uses predictive analytic algorithms to serve up tunes for any mood, occasion or activity.

Moodbox claims that it can read your mood even by analysing your speech and behaviour. It will ask you questions to gain a better idea of your mood, and it responds empathetically, so you can have a conversation with it. The unit will even suggest what you can do to improve your mood.

You can sync multiple Moodboxes around the house to form a multiroom setup. You can then play the same song in each room, or have each pump out a different one to set a different mood. It should be great for house parties.

It also doubles as a light that, it claims, can improve your mood.

Wonder when you’re happy and when sad? The Moodbox app will keep a record of your moods and let you see how it varies over the day, week or month.

It’s more than halfway to meeting its $40,000 goal with a month to go. You can nab one by pledging $149 (£106). The Moodbox will ship in August.
